The Real Side Radio Show

Have you had your healthy dose of reality lately? There are always at least two sides to every story.

Have you ever wondered how someone, who saw the same thing you did, walked away telling a vastly different story? Which version was correct? Which one was the REAL story? Actually, both are! It’s just a matter of perspective.

Joe takes the issues… especially the controversial issues (politics, prejudice, religion, illegal immigration)… and brings in people from different sides to share their viewpoint. This is definitely not a fluff piece.

And while no one is attacked, the questions are hard-hitting. But the conversation is always respectful and you’re sure to learn something new, even if you don’t agree! The show is interactive, so call in 888-407-5220 or join the conversation on the chat room at TheRealSide.com. Is there a topic you'd like to hear? Send us an email to: Joe@TheRealSide.Com

If you’ve always wondered how the “other side” thinks and how they’ve arrived at their “stand”, then this is the show for you! It’s not the right side, it’s not the wrong side, but the REAL side of the issues!

Real Food in the Inland Empire

Stephanie Georgieff has been the host of KCAA's Real Food Empire for over a year now, and has become quite the hostess for all things Food in the Inland Empire. Real Food Empire is different from other cooking shows, in that it documents all aspects of food, from farm to table to tummy. Stephanie also brings a national and global perspective to Real Food Empire with reports from Italy, Macedonia and where ever else her travels might take her.

Each week, the show gives a unique perspective on the vibrant Inland Empire food scene. You will never know what Stephanie is cooking up, it might be a bee keeper, a vitner, a local chef, baker or farmer. Or you might get great tips on how to make real food, healthy and fast.

One thing is for sure, it will get your tummy going, and you will have all the info on how to find delicious, local food that nourishes your soul, helps the community and is good for the land.

Real Food Empire, Sundays from 9 - 10 am

Vince Daniels
Sponsors

If you've been tuned-in to KCAA 1050-AM, by now you've no doubt heard the recognizable ad for Vince Daniels' return. Complete with the “Jaws" movie theme background, listeners are reminded countless times a day that "he's coming" (back to his familiar 3-hour Saturday time slot). "Most important," according to the ad, "It's coming, and it's worth the wait."

The 'it' will be revealed at 10:06am on October 1st, says Vince, who since early 2006 has hosted two shows for KCAA, 'The Many Moods of Vince Daniels' and 'The DNA Radio Show.' His third incarnation will prove to be a surprise. "I've kept it under wraps, pretty much. Newsman Nick (Anthony) will do his local headlines, traffic and weather straight-up at 10 0'clock, then after a few commercials, before I hit the air, it will be announced and at that time, everyone will know."

Not only is Daniels keeping mum about this, so is KCAA. Normally a few days before a host debuts, the station will feature a show title on its website. Kevin Shannon's information will remain on their Saturday page until after Vince and his show are in place. "I just don't want to tip my hand on this one," he claims.

As for being 'worth the wait', Vince's website began featuring a countdown clock, 52 days ahead of his comeback. L.A./O.C. and I.E. old timers will recognize the big logo card for UHF-TV station, Channel 52 from the late 60's-70's. Be sure to have your speakers on to hear the song that you used to listen to over and over while waiting for the station to sign on. Bert Kaempfert's "That Happy Feeling."

KCAA will preempt its regular programming at 9:05AM on October 1 in order to sign off, play that same song, and to officially sign on again at 10, including running the national anthem. In the meantime, you can read how the glory days of Channel 52 programming remind Vince so much of KCAA in a special blog that he wrote. Just go to VinceDaniels.com

The Realty Executive Hour

The Realty Executive Hour, airs every Wednesday afternoon from 4-5 pm with Host Jerry Gusman. Jerry is a licensed real estate agent and foreclosure prevention specialist.

I learned how to save peoples homes from foreclosure by helping some of my friends attain loan modifications and even negotiated a loan modification for my own home. I quickly realized how difficult it was dealing with the banks and the stress of the millions of families having to deal with them.

I started the Realty Executive Hour Radio Program to try and reach out to the thousands of distressed homeowners in the inland empire and give them the CORRECT information, facts and guidance they would need to remedy their mortgage woes. KCAA gave me the avenue to reach more of these struggling homeowners and since my debut show we have helped many, many people and the families avoid foreclosure. Mission accomplished!

Tune into the Realty Executive Hour on Wednesday afternoons at 4 pm and be empowered with the knowledge and information you need to take advantage of today’s ever changing Real Estate market!

CEO Report September 2011

The state of our radio station can be summarized with one word…Hopeful. It appears we are slowly changing from “yes we can” to “yes we did”.

Our local programs are gaining popularity each month and except for love performances of the Poorman, our local show are capturing more listeners than our syndicated shows like Don Imus, who for years gave us measured amount of identity. Today, Imus barely puts a bleep on our radar screen compared to local programming such as ‘The Morning Show’. Interestingly, “The Morning Show” between 9 and 10 A.M. with Paul, Erin and John finds its greatest audience on Monday morning when people show up for work; many times disgusted and frustrated and needing a reason to goof off for an hour. It seems “The Morning Show” serves its purpose such that it allows people to gradually make peace with their cubicle.

We took an internet steaming survey of programs last week and this is what we found: *See the Charts below*

In addition to excluding podcasting, these totals also exclude the video stream which ranges from 8 to 24 concurrent viewers.

In other words, people are popping on and off the internet, the podcasts and the video streams all the time. All of this produces a level of activity what we call concurrent activity and this places a certain amount of demand on our servers. Interestingly, we exceed our bandwidth limits in March of this year and had to renegotiate our contract with our provider just to keep up.

Also, this summer we showed up in the Arbitron book for the first time and this helped drive people to the website. Additionally, “Our Music Team” host Fred Plimley has spent countless hours promoting KCAA across the internet. Due to his efforts, KCAA has become the unofficial mayor of Merchant Circle for the region; having linked up with over 6,500 businesses.

I am so proud of every person that has been contributing to our success, starting with John Watanabe, our ‘Morning’ anchor who never misses a beat and who joins with Erin Brinker and Paul Lane at 9 in the morning to produce a needed distraction as per my above observations. The afternoons are held to military precision by our program director Brett Malak whose stern but empathetic voice graces the Inland Empire each afternoon. Evening responsibilities are shared between Erik Hunter and Joe Shaff, both of whom are extremely talented and loyal; well Joe is getting better anyway. No hard feelings Joe!

Several months ago, we went live overnight with Mark Christian who adds greetings and salutations to those night owls who listen to KCAA while at work or at home. Mark also serves as our in-house IT specialist and jumps in anytime a blue screen invades our sanctum.

Equal thanks to Christina Benjamin, Nick Anthony, who spend their weekends at KCAA when others are relaxing at home or enjoying other recreational activities.

Special thanks to Anthony Mangione who handles our Newsletter.

A lot happens behind the scenes to make KCAA’s signal echo through the canyons. As you may know, KCAA generates its own power with a diesel generator which requires constant maintenance. This task is made easier by Chris Neal, who makes multiple trips to the transmitter each week to service and maintain our generating system. We can't forget Rae Lane (Paul's wife), who handles the cleaning and multipe task at the station.

Our wireless internet system which connects us to our transmitter requires a team unto itself; a task we contracted to ARINC-Cybertime which employed two repeaters to reach our tower site.

Maintaining the transmitter itself is also no easy task; one shared by Dick Vosper of Carlsbad, CA and John Artal, both these men have worked through many sleepless nights in a tireless effort to keep KCAA on the air over the past 10 years.

Also off-site, in Elgin, TX, you will find my son Mike Lundgren and his friend Jonathan Patschke, who pioneered our podcasting system before the concept even had a name. At the time, we called it “Push Programming”, “Listening on Demand” and “Archiving”. One out of three isn’t too bad.

None of these pieces of the puzzle could fit together without our Operations Manager, Bill Bruns, who rules like a high school principal or Paul Lane, who self identifies as our “black man in a wheelchair” and our “double affirmative action” coworker. His words, not mine!

Bev St. Andrews is a consistent deal maker and promoter for all things KCAA, who, in addition to making cash sales, gets us trades for services that provide the station with a everything from our KCAA truck tires and maintenance to my room during visits to the station, most recently a courtesy of the fine people at the Hampton Inn in Highland located at 27959 Highland Avenue call (909) 862-8000 to make your reservation when you travel to Southern California.

Paul, as our Bureau Chief, has become the conscience of KCAA; always handling difficult situations with grace, integrity and finesse.

And then there’s me, the “idea man” or some say “the fellow with a vision thing”, and the person who runs back and forth on the stage 24 hours a day spinning plates on top of sticks like the performer on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Special thanks to my wife Linda who is bed-ridden with a broken hip and continues to work on KCAA business.

John Brown who is our personal assistant is actually typing my words of the report on the computer because my right hand is numb from a dead nerve. Thank you John you are much appreciated.

Last, but certainly not least, is our sales staff who “brings home the bacon” every day. Without them, all the performances in the world would never reach an audience. These include Michael Sayegh, Todd Rowan, Andrew Henderson, Trevor Garner (stay on the wagon!) and consistent, regular sales by almost every member of the KCAA family. Also contributing to sales are Dee Galiffa, Steve Naranjo and Wallace Allen.

We would have nothing to offer our listeners without our long and growing list of superior programmers and advertisers who generate essential revenue and publicity for the station throughout the day. This creates a regenerating public relations machine that rivals the best political campaigns

So when you hear us discuss the KCAA family, now you know we’re a large and diverse family. Because of this diversity, we have become the only radio station that can boast of the moniker “The Station That Leaves No Listener Behind”.
